The Ugly Fireplace Transformation

If there were an ugly fireplace contest, I know we could have won. (see before picture at top)  Notice how the fireplace sits on an angle.

But thanks to the brick mason, Mike Tucker and crew, a massive, crooked, not-centered, flag-stone flanked fireplace is being transformed.  Here are some photos from today's refacing that is underway.  The end product will have a tongue-groove trim above the mantle.  By the way, Mike is the first Tucker we've met in Mitchell County which is quite different from the number in Irwin County.  Mike and Tony are distant relatives from the Tucker family in Colquitt County where Mr. Tucker had 22 children.

Demo Underway

Here are a few pictures of the demo accomplished in four days.  We removed the wall opening up a small living room and den (top photo).  A half-bath that was located where you could watch tv and go to the potty at the same time was removed. (next 2 photos)  We cut out two arched openings off the foyer.(Photo 4)  The carpet was removed from the staircase to prepare for rebuilding stairs and head space so Tony doesn't bump his head everytime he goes upstairs.  (Photo 5)

The Tuckers purchase a "Tudor"

After months of searching in Mitchell County for a new home that was built within the last five years that was move in ready, we found a 1978 fixer-upper in Pelham.    The tudor-style house was built by the Singletary family, founders of Sing Oil Company.  We are the fourth owners of the home following Dr. Terry & Heather Lambert and James & Kimberly NeSmith.

Labor Day 2010 was move-in day with four air mattresses and our toothbrushes.  We are now living in one of those renovation realty shows as all four of us sleep in the master bedroom while we renovate downstairs.  Renovations began on September 21st of this 8-week project.
